NEW  VILLAGE CENTRE FOODSTORE FOR HAWKINGE

A plot of land in the village centre owned by Shepway Council  which was  earmarked for a shop has been sold, paving the way for another convenience store.

The land off Heron Forstall Avenue behind the Tesco Express store and the rear of the Community Centre has been marketed by the council for some considerable time.

A Shepway District Council spokesperson told the Gazette: "There were three planning uses for the site: a church, a public house or a convenience store and it was marketed as a site suitable for a convenience store. 

"We have finally now secured a buyer and the site has been sold with planning permission in place for a convenience store. We will be finalising contracts over the next few weeks."

However contrary to rumours of the identity of the purchaser, the spokesperson went on to say that they could not release the name of the buyer yet, but they had been told it was not Tesco.
