CLINTON'S SECURITY FEARS OVER P&O DEAL

Hillary Clinton

The long drawn out saga of the takeover of P&0 by Dubai Ports World is now fuelling American security fears of handing over its major ports to foreign governments.

The wife of a former President of the United States Bill Clinton, Senator Hillary Clinton and New Jersey Democratic Senator Bob Menendez are mounting a congressional blockade of a deal handing over New York's port operations to the company owned by the United Arab Emirates.

"Our port security is too important to place in the hands of foreign governments," Clinton said.

Dubai Ports World's $6.8 billion takeover of British company P&O would give it control of port operations in New York, New Jersey, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Miami and New Orleans.

The Bush administration, however, considers Dubai and the UAE a solid ally in its campaign against terrorism.
