TOP TORY COMES TO DINNER

Cllr Susan Carey, Sir Sandy Bruce-Lockhart and Mrs Tess Bruce-Lockhart

Local  Conservatives played host to former Conservative County Council Leader Sir Sandy Bruce-Lockhart at a packed dinner at Etchinghill Village Hall on Friday (27 January).

In a speech to Tolsford tories, Sir Sandy outlined important points of Conservative policy and also spoke of his role as Chairman of the Local Government Association.

Born in 1942, Sir Sandy farmed in Zimbabwe before settling in Kent. He has farmed in Kent for 37 years, concentrating on fruit and fruit packing.

He was first elected to Kent County Council in 1989 and was elected Leader of the Conservative Group in 1993. In May 1997 he became Leader of Kent County Council, a post he held until 2005.

Sir Sandy Bruce-Lockhart has been Chairman of the Local Government Association  (LGA) since July 2004, before which he spent two years as Vice-Chairman of the Association and of the LGA Executive.
