"The Leas Bandstand grand opening next Friday (15 December) will  be a good opportunity for the 1890 Leas Lift Carriage Restoration Appeal’s staunch supporters to remind members of the public and civic luminaries, that a second piece of Folkestone’s unique past has been removed just a few yards down the Leas, and is awaiting restoration once £25,000 has been raised," said Bob Mouland.

He continued: "Folkestonian history buffs and individuals all turned away from the sole surviving Step-lift carriage once it was brought home in July 2004. We, however, are not for turning away."

On Friday 15 December, the Step-lift carriage’s supporters will be displaying a large board, shaking buckets and appealing for donations.

Mr. Mouland speaking on behalf of the 1890 Leas lift carriage restoration appeal said: "Help us, to help you, save an important part of your heritage which many of you will remember in your childhood days traversing up and down the cliff face, which is still clinging to life- just.

"Alternatively, please send cheques to HSBC Bank. Account No: 21433784, Sort Code 40 21 15.

"We remind the people of Folkestone what two companies, Millennium Lifting Limited in Densole, and Charles Hewitt, transport specialist in Canterbury, freely contributed their services to you at a total cost of £4,000."
