MONSIEUR HARRY TAKES FRENCH BY STORM

Hawkinge Harry was among four east Kent giants who braved the weekend weather and took Boulogne by storm when they travelled across the channel to take part French town’s annual St Nicolas procession.

Hawkinge Parish Council Chairman David Callahan took Harry, along with help from representatives from Singleton, near Ashford who took their giant Flora. Other East Kent giants,  Lily from Herne Bay and Joss from Margate, and 40 giant ‘guardians’ travelled via Eurostar or Sea France to join the Boulogne celebrations o­n Saturday evening.

David told the Gazette: " It was a wonderful occassion with the French crowds cheering as we passed."

He added that he would like to thank publicly, the youngsters outside the Community Centre who helped him to load up and upon his return unload Harry.

There are now six east Kent giants that have been created by their local communities with help from Strange Cargo arts company.
