AIRPORT EXPANSION PLANS DUE

The planning application for the expansion of Lydd Airport is due to be lodged with Shepway Council very shortly. The council expects to receive the application in two parts – one for the runway extension and one for a 500,000 passenger terminal building. The applications will be accompanied by Environmental Impact Assessments and a masterplan.

Some consultation on the applications is expected to start before Christmas, although the council is planning more extensive consultation in the New Year. When the applications have been received, the full consultation programme will be finalised. This is likely to include public exhibitions to give people the chance to study the plans and make comments.

The applications are likely to take between three and six months to assess and will then be presented to full council for consideration.
