Tit Bits - 31 December 2006

Tit Bits

Goodbye and good riddance to 2006...

I suppose that is being harsh, especially when we have seen important local campaigns winning the day. There was much celebrating when the health centre in the woods plan failed to get approval from Shepway planning committee and Selsted School will be staying open after a vigorous and well planned campaign which brought the plight of the school to a national audience.

But the Community Centre is still not fulfilling its expectations. Even now after Uncle Tom Cobley and all his mates have eventually banded together to try and save the ailing edifice, I wouldn't give it more than 50/50 chance of survival,  let alone making a success of a building which was never built with any idea of the needs of a community.

The Gazette has had its ups and downs too. Our readership has increased to over 4,100 unique visitors and 18,000 visits a month, but it has sadly been forced to close the Chatterbox because of the 'upset' virus.

Upset virus, what's that?

This is something we have come across on a few occasions recently - people say something on the Chatterbox, or in a letter and someone is immediately struck down with this almost incurable disease, 'upset'.

The doctors have no cure and there are only two ways it can be treated. The sufferer can speak to a solicitor and/or the website has to vaccinate and sometimes 'spike' all stories and comments which could spread this malicious bug.

Luckily I don't think it has mutated and spread to the local papers yet, or all the so called 'here today, gone tomorrow' councillors could have easily been struck down after the letter recently in Shepway's most read local tabloid was published. The letter slammed the elected representatives claiming that if they showed the same integrity as the 'professional' Chief Executive, we would be in a different world.

Besmirching their integrity - how very dare you!

Dear Ed,

Virus "Upset"

It seems to me axiomatic that now and again, the only way to achieve some things is to go and "upset" someone; unfortunate though this might be.
