Almost 1,000 Shepway homes were left without electricity last night (30 December) after bad weather affected overhead power lines.

Strong winds and rain caused overhead lines to cross each other and hundreds of homes were blacked out at 6.45 on Saturday evening.

An EDF Energy spokesman confirmed that 914 customers had power restored shortly before 11.00pm in the evening and engineers were at the site on Sunday morning and aiming to restore power as quickly as possible.

25 homes in Lydd were still without power today.
