DID THEY KNOW WHAT THEY WERE SIGNING?

A petition to save the Spitfire Leisuredrome and Memorial was handed over by supporters of the campaign to the Chairman of Hawkinge Parish Council David Callahan at the monthly meeting last night (13 December).

Cllr Callahan accepted the 600 signature document but explained that it had always been the council's position to retain the Memorial and it would not be disposed of.

Speaking to the Gazette this morning, Cllr Callahan said: "To dispose of the Memorial has never been an option. I would like to know what the people who signed the petition thought they were signing."
