On the 4th of December, the day before our monthly meeting, the yearly Group Carol service was held at Capel-le-Ferne. It turned out to be a clear bright morning and a goodly number attended. One of our Hawkinge members, Nora Cole, read the Lesson and I think I can safely say we all enjoyed singing the well known Carols that were chosen.

The following day we had a very good turn-out for our December meeting despite the wind and rain. Jerusalem was sung and then birthday greetings were expressed to three of our ladies. Congratulations also went to June Moore and her husband Eric on the occasion of their Diamond Wedding Anniversary this month. Our good wishes were given along with a beautiful arrangement of flowers.

This was my first meeting as President and I made a little faux-pas, but after a peal of laughter the ladies soon put me at my ease.

After the business of the day our speaker, Mrs West-Sherring gave a talk and demonstration of how to make the “Ultimate Christmas Wreath”, which was very interesting and looked wonderful when finished. Then we had social time and the raffle was drawn; a special draw for the wreath was won by Barbara Pemble who intended to donate it to St Luke’s Church for inclusion in the Christmas decorations. The competition this month for the best “Gingerbread Man” was won by Wendy Bell.

Our next meeting will be held at the Village Hall on the 2nd of January 2007 when we have out New Year Party and Beetle Drive which will be great fun, so if you would like to come along ladies please do. We start at 2pm and aim to finish by 4.15pm.

For further information please contact Christine Allard, the secretary, on 863146 or myself on 891420.

Wishing you all a Happy and Healthy 2007.

Carole Seabrook

President
