Callahan and Tearle appear to be as inseparable as Starsky and Hutch......

Councillors Callahan and Tearle appear to be as inseparable as Starsky and Hutch at the moment. The pair from opposing sides of the political divide have been spotted recently at Remembrance Day services in both Hawkinge and Swingfield. Add to that, they appear to be fighting on the same side over the Spitfire Leisuredrome plans, and a letter has just been published on the Gazette signed jointly by the two Parish Council Chairmen, it makes you think what's going on. Is it pure coincidence, or can we expect a closer working relationship in the future I wonder?

Parish councillor John Punnett has ended up with the electricity substation outside his house after all. When the original application was received to site it in the village hall car park next door to Cllr Punnett's house, it was turned down by the council because they considered it to be an unsuitable location and it would not be in the village interest. KCC highways have now placed it on the grass verge outside Mr Punnett's house and adjacent to the car park. There's no escape for some.

Did the power cut on Sunday have anything to do with the huge number of Christmas illuminations decorating Hawkinge homes.  Who needs to go to Oxford Street or Blackpool with such a plethora of electrical paraphernalia lighting up the village. I only hope we don't have to pay for it later when the scientists discover another hole in the ozone layer; this time above Shepway.
