Tit Bits

What on earth are people whingeing about when they find moss on the footpath?......

Round One :- I can fully understand people getting upset at raw sewage flowing down Horn Street between Cheriton and Seabrook.

The story in the Folkestone Herald is rightly highlighted on the front page of the newspaper, but now flick through to page 11.

What on earth are people whingeing about when they find moss, yes that innocuous green stuff on their footpath. Why bring in Hawkinge troubleshooter Cllr Peter Smith to get it sorted? Surely he has more important things to do than examine the amount of moss on pavements on the new estates.

People always used to sweep the footpath outside their homes and keep the gutters clear of debris. Seems we have lost this art of maintaining our own properties and if the problem is just inches from their fence more and more people expect someone else to do it for them. But just remember in this life you get ought for nought, and you'll end end up paying increased council tax when a new moss clearing department is set up, just you see.

Round Two:- Talking about overworked  Cllr Peter Smith, I've just been slipped  a copy of an Email from the Hawkinge Partnership Acting Neighbourhood Manager, Jenny Hanna to Peter.

It appears that our busy Cllr Smith, approached our good friends at the Partnership for a letter which clarified that they agreed that youth is a priority for Hawkinge.

The letter according to them was to support a pack of information which Cllr Smith was to use in order to apply for  possible new funding  from Central government with regard to youth facilities in Communities.

After a conversation with a Shepway Administrative Officer, Ann Hunter the Partnership manager became aware that Cllr Smith, who has made no secret of his support for the Leisuredrome,  might have possibly wished to use the letter at the recent Development Control Meeting which was considering the Parish Council's planning application for the Leisuredrome.

The plans for the building which once housed a youth club and cadet force,  were to help the council  sell it with planning permission and realise the best price for the building and land.

Cllr Smith was approached by the Partnership manager, and according to the Email  he told them that it would not be used if he was allowed to speak at the meeting.

He was told the letter could not be used for this purpose and it was only intended for the purpose of backing up the funding application. Cllr Smith was not allowed to speak at the meeting as it was considered he had an interest in the building.

The plans were given the go ahead.

But still the battle to keep it open continues as supporters of the Leisuredrome complained that documents sent to Shepway for the planning committee to discuss had not been  shown to the panel's members. The Parish Council will now have to wait until next Tuesday (14 November) to see if the previous decision to pass the plans is upheld.

Seconds out, Round Three or could it be a technical knock-out this time?
