HAWKINGE NURSE'S CHINA CHARITY TREK

Jacqui Buxton a District Nurse from Hawkinge will join a group of twenty adventurers for the Prima Great Wall of China Trek in a nine-day expedition from 11th May 2007 to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer, the UK’s leading breast cancer charity.

Trekkers will start their once in a lifetime experience in Jinshanlang and will walk for approximately 12kms each day along the Great Wall of China, which was originally constructed to keep out nomadic tribes who raided China’s northern frontier. Travelling along the route’s stony path, they will scale the Great Wall’s crumbling staircases, passing many of the ruined watchtowers,  and experience the breathtaking mountain scenery in areas of China that are rarely ever visited.

Jacqui is raising funds for Breakthrough’s vital research, campaigning and education work. She said: “Taking part in this trip along the Great Wall of China is a challenging and exciting way to raise funds for Breakthrough’s vital work enjoying the. Knowing every penny I raise will go towards Breakthrough will spur me on through every step.

"This terrible disease touches too many people's lives, every month causing more than 1,000 deaths in the UK alone and not just women either - breast cancer affects many men too !"

'Breakthrough Breast Cancer' is the UK's leading charity committed to fighting breast cancer through research and education.

Jacqui knows from personal experience the devastating effect that cancer can have on a family “ that's why I've taken up Breakthrough's 'GREAT WALL CHALLENGE' - it's my way of celebrating and honouring my mother and all of the people I have met as patients who we sadly lost to cancer. The Prima Great Wall Discovery 2007 in aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer is over 100km walk along the Great Wall of China beginning 11th May 2007. I have pledged to raise a total of £2,500 by February 2007 for this Charity.

I am organizing charity events such as on 7th Dec a charity Auction with Lots such as VIP Who wants to be a millionaire tickets to watch filming and have drinks with Chris Tarrent, Room 101 tickets and lots of Football , sports and star memorabilia.

"You may donate in several ways, either by donating a prize for one of the fundraising evenings, some Time by volunteering to help fundraise , by cheque (payable to 'Breakthrough Breast Cancer') or by donating online through this secure web address - http://www.bmycharity.com/jacquichina

" I will be most happy to publicise any corporate donations during the walk itself and also beforehand in all of my fundraising activities."

“I'm very proud to be supporting vital breast cancer research and would encourage others to get involved and give money for someone they love.

"Thanks for your support and remember - together we can make a difference!”
