Evening policing in Hawkinge

EVENING POLICING IN HAWKINGE

Dear Ed,

Re:- Lack of evening policing in Hawkinge

Alan raises interesting issues regarding evening Police coverage in Hawkinge.

How informative is Alan's discussions with our Warden and PC because it answers so many questions about a 'police' presence in Hawkinge in the evenings.

There is no doubt that most trouble occurs in the evenings and everyone is wondering why our 'police' are rarely around. Now we know and we should not be blaming our Warden or PC. With one having too much of an area to cover and the other, by virtue of her gender unable to patrol alone in the evenings, the finger has to be pointed at who made the appointments and who produced the job descriptions. Do we know to whom they are accountable for creating a situation which does nothing to solve our problems?

I am a member of a group called 'the Citizen's Panel for Kent Policing' and the latest survey invites me to ask what, given 5 minutes with the Chief Constable, I would wish to raise with him. My response is 'given your commitment to tackle crime at a local level, why have you allowed a well-known evening hot-spot like Hawkinge to remain uncovered by a police presence because the PC has too greater size of area to patrol and your Warden unable to contribute due to her gender?'

Any response I receive I will report back to this forum.

Yours,

lightning
