HAWKINGE PARISH TAX INCREASES TO £25

Last week's Extraordinary Parish Council meeting (15 November) saw councillors vote to increase the Parish Tax for Hawkinge in 2007/8.

Provided there are no objections to the new charge, Hawkinge ratepayers will pay £25; double that of 2005/6.

The rise will fund the appointment of a new full-time Parish Clerk in April when the present incumbent Beryl Hardy retires.

The new clerk will be based at the Partnership Office and the council have allocated an amount in the precept to pay a share of the running costs for the use of the building.

An as yet undisclosed amount of the precept will be allocated for contingencies.
