SPATE OF CATTLE STRAYING ONTO LOCAL ROADS

Shepway and Dover have seen a  big increase of animals straying onto roads

Police are becoming increasingly worried for animals' welfare and the safety of road users after a spate of incidents involving animals which have strayed onto local roads.

Officers have received more than 20 calls since the start of November about animals causing traffic hazards.

A police spokesman said owners had a legal responsibility to secure animals and could be fined if their animals were found straying onto a highway.  The welfare of the animals and the safety of road users and pedestrians is also a concern.
