FOLKESTONE FAMILY ESCAPE HOLIDAY MUDSLIDE HORROR

A family from Folkestone cheated death after a mudslide destroyed their holiday hotel in Cyprus as they ate breakfast reports the Sun (14 October).

Mark Bates 36, his wife Kelly and daughter Courtney, 11, were swept away by the muddy avalanche but managed to scramble to safety and bravely helped rescue fellow holidaymakers and hotel workers buried in the flooded carnage.

Kelly, 35, was on the island for her brother's wedding when the mudslide struck the beach resort of Coral Bay in Paphos.

Hours of torrential rain triggered the landslide which demolished the first two floors of the four star Corallia Hotel.

Luckily no one was killed or seriously hurt although several people needed treatment for cuts and shock.
