WHEN HAS THE PARISH COUNCIL EVER HAD AN INTEREST IN HAWKINGE?

Dear Editor,

Re: Hawkinge employment land public presentation thrown out

As a resident  in the Parish of Hawkinge I appreciate the Gazette's effort to try and persuade the Parish Council for a public presentation of the proposals for the so called employment land at Hawkinge west.

But, I wonder if in hindsight, you feel that once again this was a waste of your time and energy because when has the Parish Council ever had an interest in the Voice of Hawkinge?

Working as I do with other Parish Councils (about 54 in all),  never have I come  across a council who rides so rough-shod over their Parishioners.  From where I sit it seems that the attitude is we, the Councillors, will have precisely what we want.

You only have to walk around the Parish and see all that is in need of attention whether it is Highways issues, local council or whatever.  Most of it is minor, but would greatly improve not only the appearance of the village but the attitude of villagers.

These Councillors are elected to look after the issues of their Parish and to improve its well being.  If they don't make the phone call to the respective agency how is that agency meant to know of the problem?

There are many complaints about the young people of the Parish, but the Parish council has got to take the responsibility for not leading and setting an example to these impressionable young people.

I don't think that there are many who will disagree that Hawkinge is not in the running for a Best Village award, Neatest Village, Tidiest Village.  Why isn't the village working towards applying for these awards?  Because there is no leadership from the Parish Council, no encouragement for a community spirit.

There are courses and seminars for Councillors to attend to help them work to achieving such projects.  Best that Hawkinge Councillors think about attending and putting their results into practice.

Nance
