KNEE JERK REACTION ... RAISE THE TAX! Re: Pay more tax to keep centre open?

Dear Ed,

Our Councillor has obviously not pondered the poll for long. Knee jerk reaction.. raise the Tax! Has he forgotten the old cry “no taxation without representation that seemed to spark the loss of a sizable colony a couple of centuries ago!

But then again our Parish Councillors are not used to poll results (at time of writing 83% for the motion so far)

He neglects to say if his increase is monthly or annually. He has done well in sporting endeavours for the village, but not doing too well in this field, I fear.

Finkle is thinking that there could be many and varied ways our Councillor and his cohorts could consider.

Resign en mass and offer themselves for election (bearing in mind very few of them are elected) and see if those that do get elected can bring some fresh minds as well as fresh blood to the Parish Council, which now seems to be a self perpetuating gerontocracy, squabbling over the cake trolley in the afternoon rest lounge in some Home for the Terminally Bewildered (oh where is Matron when you need her?)

Resign and don’t stand for election and hand over the whole shooting match to an executive body to run the show. The Hawkinge Partnership and Community Centre seem to be making a pretty good fist of things so far. They seem to be offering so much more to the Village than our creaking Council.

Dispose of the ill named “Leisuredromeâ€? which is now on the periphery of the village and slowly rotting away (the cost of renovating same, I understand, would be vast) use the proceeds for the funding. Dispose of any further assets for their cash values and deposit same in a Community Chest.

No doubt there are many other options and I for one would be keen to know of them.

Yours etc.

Finkle
