TORIES WALK IT IN LOCAL ELECTION

Michael Howard, who is facing his last party conference next week as Tory leader, has received a boost from his Folkestone and Hythe constituency.

Conservative David Stephenson scored a landslide victory at New Romney to take the last Labour seat on Shepway District Council.

The Tory victory saw the Labour candidate come in second and the Liberal Democrats a lowly third.

The full result is as follows:-

BUCKLEY-DALY Margaret  The Labour Party  175
POWELL Toni Lorraine Liberal Democrat 111
STEPHENSON David Bryan ELECTED The Conservative Party  560
