HUNDREDS TAKE TO THE STREETS OVER SEAFRONT PLAN

Over 200 protesters gathered in Folkestone today (3 September) to protest over the building of 700 flats on the site of the former Rotunda amusement park.

The plans for the site also include a hotel, restaurant, multiplex cinema and bowling alley.

Shepway District Council gave planning consent on 23 July despite opposition from Folkestone Town Council and Folkestone and Hythe MP Michael Howard.

People opposing the proposals by Trent Development claim the modern design is not in keeping with Folkestone's Victorian seafront.

Mr Howard has asked Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott to call in the scheme for a public inquiry.
