Surgery would bring more traffic problems

SURGERY WOULD BRING MORE TRAFFIC PROBLEMS

Dear Ed,

We the residents of The Street and Mill Lane, are threatened with the loss of woodland in our adjacent area, because of a development plan for a large medical centre and retail pharmacy.

This woodland, described by the planners as neglected, was set up around 1930 as unmanaged woodland, to encourage wildlife, which it certainly has. Any development would lead to its loss, particularly for the bats, which live there.

We treasure the peace and tranquillity of this area, and do not wish to have any greater traffic congestion than we have at present. In short, our streets are too narrow and barely lit, or not lit at all, putting pedestrians at risk in the event of any traffic increase.

It is also a concern that a main entrance to this development should be in Mill Lane, which is narrow, single track, and unlit.

We also find it unusual for a retail outlet to be housed in a doctors' surgery, and wonder in this case if it is acceptable, or would be the cause of more traffic problems.

It is hoped the Council will see fit not to vary the District Plan, which protects this woodland from development.

Yours faithfully

Peter Sellars

Vice Chairman,
