HARBOUR BOMB WILL BRING BACK MEMORIES

Standing next to a German 1000 kilogram bomb could bring back memories of the town at war in a new exhibition at Dover Museum.

To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II, the Museum has displays on life in the town during the Second World War, with special emphasis on 1940 to 1944 when Dover was Britain's frontline with Nazi-occupied Europe.

The Dover at War exhibition includes two full-sized recreations of a war-time kitchen and front room, complete with a real Morrison Shelter and original furniture. Other highlights include a German 1000 Kg bomb, recovered from Dover Harbour and defused, and the original Nazi Flag and Flag of Surrender from the German gun batteries at Calais, captured by the Canadians in September 1944.

The original Dover Book of Remembrance, listing all Dover's casualties is also displayed, together with a copy of the book that visitors can look through.

The exhibition is running until 18 June 2006. Entry to Dover Museum is free to all Dover District residents. For more information, please contact Mark Frost at Dover Museum on (01304) 201066.
