HAWKINGE HARRY'S BIG DAY

Hawkinge Harry will be making a big impression when he opens the village’s fun day on Saturday (3 September).

The 13 foot high giant, created by the people of the village, will perform his first official role by opening the Hawkinge fun day at 11.00 am on the village green in Heron Forstal Avenue. Local children will celebrate the opening by parading with Harry around the green accompanied by festival music provided by the popular band Brew Ha Ha.

The Fun Day, which has been organised by local residents with support from Hawkinge Partnership and includes a bouncy castle, bungee run, a summer fair, rodeo bull, arts and crafts stands, a children’s zone, refreshments and displays by community groups in the village.

Between 2.00pm and 3.00pm Home Start and Sainsbury’s will host a Madhatters’ Tea Party.

“Everyone from Hawkinge is welcome. There will be loads to see and do, it will be a great day out, said Jan Doyle, Chairman of the Partnership.

There will be a cabaret in the community centre from 7.00pm. Tickets are available from the Hawkinge Community Office (next to Tesco) and the Hawkinge Community Centre.

The Hawkinge Partnership was created following a successful bid for government funding under the Government’s Neighbourhood Management Pathfinder Programme, Round 2. Its aim is to help the police, the Primary Care Trust, education and youth providers improve services offered in Hawkinge.
