SHIP RUNS OVER SURFACING DIVER

Dover Coastguards were scrambled to the Folkestone coast shortly before 11.00am yesterday (20 August) after a local dive vessel `Taurus’ reported that a large vessel had run over one of their divers who had just surfaced.

The report indicated that the diver was now back on board the `Taurus’ with a suspected broken arm and possible internal injuries, and that the crew needed immediate assistance to evacuate the injured diver to hospital.
The Dover RNLI all weather lifeboat was launched and the Coastguard Tug `Anglian Monarch’ (pictured left) was also sent to the scene two miles off the Folkestone Coast, to stand by the `Taurus’.

The injured woman was transferred by stretcher the lifeboat where paramedics stabilised the patient.

An ambulance waiting at Crosswall Quay Dover rushed the injured 37 year old Kent woman to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford where it was reported she had sustained broken ribs and lacerations but was said to be in a "comfortable condition".
