SCRATCHING SOUNDS SUCCESS

Music makers got together at the Lower Leas Coastal Park amphitheatre on Saturday (30 July) when Dek Force 1 and Dek Work South East hosted a DJ and music technology workshop.

“Although the wind made a bit of mischief by picking up some of the equipment and blowing across the amphitheatre, this did not deter those who had turned up to make music, said Shepway Council’s Arts Development Officer, Amanda Oates.

“Drum 'n bass, hip-hop, MC-eeing and scratching were among the cocktail of possibilities on offer from the crew and everyone appeared to have a great time.

“The sessions were rounded off with a 45-minute performance by Dek Force 1 and Dek Work South East.

On Saturday evening (6 August) the amphitheatre stages a showcase for local performers with original material. Anyone who wishes to perform music, dance, the spoken word or any other form of performance can turn up on the day for a 10-minute slot or can book in advance for a longer performance by calling Simon Mohr on 07970 770257.

“The event is proving so popular that it has been extended to run from 3.00pm to 10.00pm instead of the original start time of 5.00pm. It just goes to show how many potential budding performers we have here in Shepway, said Amanda.

On Sunday (7 August) Bolivian music comes to the amphitheatre with Wayra de Los Andes. The concert starts at 2.00pm
