NO TRUTH IN CABARET RUMOUR

Rumours circulating in the village that a Cabaret Evening in the Community Centre has been cancelled were denied today by Parish Council Chairman David Callahan.

The event on 3rd September which is a part of the Hawkinge Fun Day is "definately still on" said David.

Following complaints of noise, Hawkinge Community Centre has been told by Shepway Council's Licencing Committee to install soundproofing for the hall within six weeks or face operating without an entertainment licence.

This would mean the Rock'n'Roll club and other public entertainment would have to stop, but private events, such as weddings could continue.

The deadline does not expire until the end of September so the Cabaret is unaffected.
