GROWING LIST OF SHEPWAY WINNERS

Council tenants and leaseholders proved just how well their gardens grow when they took part in an annual gardening competition.

Organised by the Shepway Tenants’ and Leaseholders’ Group (STLG), there were prizes in five categories - small, medium and large general gardens and sheltered and non-sheltered communal gardens.

One of the judges, Chris McCreedy of Shepway District Council, said that the standard in the third year of the competition had once again been incredibly high and all the gardens were a credit to their creators.

“It was amazing to see just how much care people put into their gardens. Even those with only a very small garden created some great displays, he said.

Other judges were Steve Ward and Linda Jenner of the STLG and Jana Getliffe, a Landscape Architect at Shepway.

The prizes in this year’s competition were sponsored by four of the council’s partnering contractors - Wilson Builders, Armature Electrical, Swale Heating and Prima Systems, along with Homebase and City Electrical Factors. Sponsorship totaled £600 - plus a set of solar garden lights.

Betty Garfield, Chairman of the STLG, presented the prizes to the winners alongside representatives from the sponsors and Cllr Brian Copping, Cabinet Member for Housing.

“I feel privileged to present the prizes in this competition. The winners have worked very hard to produce such wonderful gardens, often with the main aim of providing pleasure for others, said Betty.

“We were very lucky this year with such generous sponsorship to be able to give a small prize to every person who entered, as well as first, second and third prizes in some of the categories. We hope that our garden competition will continue to grow in popularity and we thank everyone who entered and our sponsors for their support, she said.
