PHONE RAGE AS NEW MAST PROPOSED FOR VILLAGE CENTRE

A 15 metre mobile telephone mast which could be sited in the centre of Hawkinge has been met with fierce opposition from residents.

Parish Council Chairman David Callahan speaking at this week's Parish Council Meeting (10 August) said there was opposition to the mast in the village and he had received letters from residents about the proposals.

Plans for the mast, which would be sited at the Telephone Exchange in Barnhurst Lane, have been submitted to Shepway District Council.

The installation consists of a 15metre high timber monopole with associated antenna, cabinets and cabling in connection with mobile telecommunications network.

In February 2005 a similar application was withdrawn.
