SHEPWAY PLAN TO IMPROVE 'WEAK' COUNCIL

It is hoped  a new  plan which outlines Shepway Council’s priorities and objectives, will  improve the Council rating.

The Shepway Plan for the year ahead, approved by Cabinet in June, identifies what the council wants to achieve and sets out key tasks for departments.

“For the first time we have a document that says exactly what we want to do and introduces a clear link between our priorities and our objectives and what departments and individual officers have to do to meet them, said Council Leader, Robert Bliss.

Since the 2003/04 plan was published, the council has been rated as a ‘weak’ authority under the government’s Comprehensive Assessment (CPA) regime, but Cllr Bliss said the new plan would help the council move towards an ‘excellent’ rating.

“Last year was a difficult and challenging one for the council but councillors and staff have shown their commitment to achieve improvements and I am sure this plan will help put us on the right road.â€?

The 214-page plan is available on the council’s website at www.shepway.gov.uk
