LAP-DANCING CLUB PLANS OUTRAGE NEIGHBOURS

A new lap-dancing club planned for an historic area of Canterbury, near to the Cathedral could soon be up and running, but many residents are outraged.

The club will be exclusively for executive members

The owner's of Scribe's pub in King's Street Canterbury want to convert the upstairs into a gentleman's entertainment area with erotic dancers exclusively for 'executive' members.

Local residents have written to Canterbury City Council's licensing department with their concerns but a Council spokesman said objections to lap-dancing clubs can only be made under four criteria, the prevention of crime and disorder, public safety, the prevention of public nuisance, and the protection of children from harm.

A decision on the application is expected by the end of August. If approved, the club could be open by Christmas.
