PASSENGERS STRANDED AFTER AIRLINE HALTS FLIGHTS

Passengers have been left stranded today (26 July) after the parent company of budget airline EUjet went into voluntary administration and stopped all flights.

Yesterday it was announced that shares in its parent company had been suspended. Shares had fallen to less than six pence a share compared to a high of over ninety pence in the last 52 week period.

Both the airline and the airport, at Manston are owned by PlaneStation, but freight operators using the airport are so far unaffected.

The group warned in June that passenger numbers at EUjet had been below planned levels during its first year but said it now has a good understanding of the nature and size of the low cost airline market.

The airline began commercial flights in September 2004 but passenger numbers have been below anticipated levels.
