CHILDREN'S SUMMER EVENTS WITH ATTITUDE

Music, drama, story-telling and art roll in to Folkestone next week as part of the cross-channel Book Attitude programme.

The programme aims to encourage reading and create a better understanding of our closest European neighbours. It is one of a growing number of European initiatives bringing art and libraries from the both sides of the channel together in an EU-funded project called Culture Mix.

Events being held in Folkestone and across Kent and in Brighton during the six-week Book Attitude programme will be mirrored across the channel at 13 venues in France

Folkestone’s five-day event, being held on The Leas, includes dance, drama, sport and music workshops. The fun kicks off on Monday 1 August with The Magic Roundabout Art Workshop from the Whole Hog Crafts group and a basket ball workshop. Children and their parents are invited for a drink of hot chocolate and croissants from 12noon to get the programme underway.

On Tuesday 2 August the Theatrical Effects Makeup group is holding dance and drama workshops and there will also be a presentation of Vacances en France with the Stop All the Clocks theatre group.

Wednesday sees circus skills brought to the fore with a workshop presented by Bright FX Circus and there will be three session of story telling by Richard Neville.

A music and DK workshop steps up the beat on Thursday and for those who like quieter pursuits, there will be petanque competitions for children under 12 years old.

The final day of Book Attitude on Friday 5 August brings traditional games workshop and a petanque competition for children aged 12 and above.

All events are free and start at 12 noon.
