TOP EMERGENCY TEAM SAYS KENT IS PREPARED

The most senior decision-makers who will oversee the response to any major incident in Kent and Medway met on Thursday (21 July) to review their emergency plans in the light of the 7 July London terrorist bombings.

Chief Constable of Kent Michael Fuller chairs Kent Resilience Forum, made up of top officials from the emergency services, local government, the health service and armed forces.

During the meeting the forum received updates about yesterday’s incidents in London.

Members of the policy-making body include Chief Fire Officer Peter Coombs and the chief executives of Kent County Council and Medway Council, Peter Gilroy and Judith Armitt, as well as senior representatives from Kent Ambulance Service, the NHS, HM Coastguard and the Army.

The forum reviewed arrangements for handling a major incident, whether terrorist-related or not, and were confident of Kent’s ability to respond.

The Chief Constable said: “We concluded that all services were prepared to deal with an incident and its aftermath and we are confident of our state of readiness and preparedness.

“While there is no specific risk to Kent, I would like to remind people to remain vigilant and report anything suspicious.
