TOWN WAITS 47 YEARS FOR THE QUEEN TO VISIT

The Queen has unveiled a commemorative stone tablet to officially open the Port of Dover’s two new ferry berths.

She arrived at the port’s Eastern Docks ferry terminal yesterday (20 July) by helicopter and was greeted by the Chairman of Dover Harbour Board, Robert Dibble, Chief Executive Bob Goldfield and more than 200 flag-waving port staff and families.

Her visit was part of a series of Royal Maritime Theme Day engagements, with members of the Royal Family paying tribute to the UK's sea workers throughout the country.

She went on to visit the Dover Museum, the watersports centre and rowing club.

It was the first time the Queen has made an official visit to Dover since 1958.
