One dead as car and miniature train collide

ONE DEAD AS CAR AND MINIATURE  TRAIN COLLIDE

A woman has died after a car collided with a Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway miniature railway train on Sunday evening (10 July).

Police have said the incident at 6.20pm, near the pilot Public House at Coast Road, Dungeness in Kent, involved a train and a silver coloured Vauxhall car at a level crossing.

The train was derailed and  the woman train driver named as Suzanne Martin died. Kent Police revealed she was the wife of Danny Martin, the railway's general manager.

There were a number of passengers o­n the train but no o­ne else was hurt.

Police Officers have questioned the 20-year-old male driver of the car.

Kent Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them by ringing the Investigation Appeal line on 01622 600970.

In August 2003 a driver o­n the railway, was killed when his train collided with a car o­n a level crossing.
 
The accident derailed the locomotive at an unguarded level crossing o­n Burmarsh Road and train driver Kevin Crouch 31, was crushed to death.
