FOLKESTONE GRAMMAR SCHOOL TEST FAILS TO WIN SUPPORT

Folkestone Grammar School for Girls has been told it cannot operate its own admission tests alongside the county's 11-plus.

The schools adjudicator ruled against the school after complaints from Kent County Council (KCC) and Wrotham School.

Under the ruling Dover Grammar School for Boys is able to continue with its long-established tests for another year.

Both schools have used their own exams to fill vacant places from pupils who have narrowly failed the 11-plus examination.

Dover was given a year's grace to allow further discussion on improvements in the county-wide admissions system to secondary schools, but the practice is to cease immediately for Folkestone Grammar School for Girls, who had been using its own tests for just two years.
