CALL FOR BARRIERS FOLLOWING RAILWAY DEATH CRASH

Local Conservative Candidate for Hythe South, Nick Meurice, today called for greater safety equipment for the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch railway to be funded from the public purse following Sunday’s fatal collision.

Nick, who was driving through the area, came upon the accident before the emergency services and stopped to see if he could offer any assistance.

Nick said: “The railway is an important tourist attraction to the area and it is important that people have confidence in its use.

This is the second death on a crossing with no barrier on the railway in two years. In August 2003 driver Kevin Crouch died after his train collided with a car at a level crossing on Burmarsh Road.
