HARVEY GRAMMAR SCHOOL RECEIVES SPECIALIST STATUS

Folkestone's Harvey Grammar School is o­ne of the nine schools in the county which are celebrating this week after successfully applying for specialist school status from the Department for Education & Skills (DfES).

The Harvey Grammar School has nearly 1000 students with 56 teaching staff and over 30 support staff.

The news means that each of the nine schools will receive additional funding during the next four years.

The schools and their specialisms are:

* The Harvey Grammar School, Folkestone – Sport
* Highworth Grammar School for Girls, Ashford - Music
* Northfleet School for Girls – Business and Enterprise
* The North School, Ashford – Sport
* St George’s CE School, Gravesend – Languages
* The Orchard School, Canterbury – Art
* Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar School, Canterbury – Music
* Walmer School, Deal – Science
* Wrotham School, Sevenoaks – Humanities
