Lazarus' lament

LAZARUS' LAMENT

Dear Ed,

Along with Finkle, when the passing of common sense is mourned, I would like to lament the passing into history of generosity.

It was about twenty years ago when some politicians made greed fashionable and produced a whole new social climate.  And now, alas, generosity both in spirit and in kind is dying.

Selfish behaviour is all around and impacts on so many facets of life, from breaking speed limits to littering; from withdrawing children from school so that holidays may be taken by parents to mugging the elderly; from position seeking social climbers to self interested politicians.

There are kind, generous people around, but they seem to be dwindling fast.  They will be missed, along with common sense.

Sad, sad days; and the world could be such a beautiful place.

Lazarus.
