Hawkinge respect begins with residents

HAWKINGE RESPECT BEGINS WITH RESIDENTS

Dear Ed

Reading through this months Alkham Village Newsletter, it highlights the stark differences between villages no more than a few miles apart.

In the top story about anti social behaviour on Vicarage Meadow in Alkham  the correspondent says: "A number of people have complained to me about loutish behaviour on Vicarage Meadow, ranging from dogs being allowed to foul the meadow and football pitch, motorbike revving, foul language and the chalking of obscenities on or near the play equipment and cricket pavilion.

"Clearly all this behaviour is unacceptable and affects us all - to that end if anyone can give me information about who is responsible I'll do what I can to shame them into mending their ways."

The correspondent then relates the story of a lady who has been spotted allowing her dog to foul the area close to the cricket square, with a request that she would please clear up after her dog.

It may seem trivial to some, but Alkham is desperate  to retain a respect and pride in its village.

Something which I'm sure is not so far away from the aspirations of many a Hawkinge villager, its just that in Alkham they are trying to do things for themselves and not waiting for dispersal orders, beat bobbies or village warden to do it for them.
