EVENTS AT FOLKESTONE'S AMPHITHEATRE SUMMER 2005

The following events are taking place at The Lower Leas Coastal Park Amphitheatre, Folkestone. <FONT color=red>All events are free.

Sunday 3 July 2.00 – 4.30pm. Shanghai Syncopated Orchestra
Original jazz and dance orchestrations of the 1920s and 1930s by eight-piece, lively and entertaining band, led by Jeff Bonner

Sunday 10 July 2.00pm – 4.30pm. The Rattlers.
An acoustic roots music combo bringing a fiery mix of folk, country, root rock, rhythm and blues and Caribbean.

Saturday 16 July 7.00pm – 10.30pm. Sound Waves
Go Folkestone presents and evening of entertainment by local bands – Luminous, Sizen and Battlestar Gallactica.

Sunday 17 July 2.00pm – 4.30pm. Pass the Cat
A five-piece band with their own distinctive style play a mix of world music including Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, African and South American rap.

Sunday 24 July 2.00pm – 4.30pm. Hullabaloo
Welcome return to the Amphitheatre of this versatile band presenting a blend of jazz, jive, swing and an original twist o­n pop.

Sunday 30 July 2.00pm – 4.30pm. DJ and Music technology workshop
A chance to join a workshop and learn basic scratching techniques, music production and beat making (hip hop/drum’n’bass) followed by a 45-minute performance by Dek Force 1 and Dek Work South East.

Sunday 31 July 2.00pm - 4.30pm. Dave Arthur Trio
Welcome return by the banjo, fiddle and guitar trio presenting lively Old Time Appalachian music and early Bluegrass.

Saturday 6 August 5.00pm – 10.00pm. Open Stage Showcase
The Amphitheatre hosts a showcase for local performers with original material. Music dance, spoken word and any other forms of performance are welcome. Turn up o­n the day for a 10-minute slot or book in advance for a longer performance by ringing Simon Mohr o­n 07970 770257.

Sunday 7 August 2.00pm – 4.30pm. Wayra De Los Andes
Meaning, ‘wind of the Andes’, the band presents Bolivian music. The line-up includes pan pipes, quena (bamboo flute) charango (a type of mandolin) Spanish guitar and vocals.

Thursday 11 August 12noon – 2.00pm. Teddy Bears’ Picnic
All Teddy bears are invited to a picnic in the park – but they’ll have to bring a child and a grown up! There’ll be the chance to meet other teddies, eat goodies and listen to some music.

Sunday 14 August 2.00pm – 4.00pm Rosie’s Dumplings
Popular local band makes a welcome return to the Amphitheatre playing a mix of lively Celtic, modern and English folk music.

Saturday 20 August 2.00pm – 4.30pm. African Drumming Workshop
A chance to practice basic rhythm and techniques o­n djembe and other African drums. People who take part in the workshop can then join in a 45-minute performance of music from Musa Mmoob at 5.00pm

Saturday 21 August 2.00pm – 4.30pm. Bromley Concert Band
Big band music and classical pieces presented by 30-piece wind band.

Saturday 27 August 2.00pm – 4.30pm
Practice juggling, plate spinning, unicycling, tightrope walking, diabolos, devilsticks, cigar boxes and pedal-goes – and then watch a 45-minute performance by the troop and 5.00pm

Sunday 28 August 2.00pm – 4.30pm Ronnie Scott’s Rejects
Fronted by vocalist Hazel Holder, Ronnie Scotts’s Rejects are a swing/jazz band that explores the great show times of the 1930s and 1940s.

Monday 29 August 2.00pm – 4.30pm. Bertie and Paul
Popular local guitar duo, Paul Minter and Bernard Eveleigh play Spanish flamenco and other music with eastern influences
