BETTER TRAINS BEFORE ROAD PRICING

Kent County Council Leader Sir Sandy Bruce-Lockhart said: “Road pricing should only be introduced if, and when, public transport and particularly train services have been dramatically improved.


“In contrast to most of Europe, it often takes people in England twice as long to go by train as it does by car.

“Transport investment has now fallen to only half the rate in the early 1990s. Rather than drive people out of their cars Mr Darling should offer them a real alternative by providing the investment to radically improve public transport and train services.�
