The disappearing and reappearing Act

Dear Ed,

Can anyone enlighten us as to the mysterious disappearance of the Webster Way Bollard  (Let Joy be unconfined) for a few days last week?

You know the o­ne I mean?

The Border Control Point.

Where expensive housing, meets less expensive housing.  Impeding the through passage of the hoi polloi from “lesser Websterâ€? into rather “upper Websterâ€?.

Letting traffic flow freely through that part of British East Hawkinge, well, as freely as speed bumps, chicanes and children allow.

I heard tell that residents of the area were so amazed they were making several trips through the “check pointâ€? just because they could!  Brought to mind October 1989 when the Berlin Wall came down and the volk from the East did likewise, just because they could.

Oh Calamity!  The bollard has reappeared!  The good folk from “lesser Websterâ€? now have to return to the old ways of negotiating their vehicles back through the estate and o­nce more o­nto The Street and speed their way away ( and of course in reverse order)

What happened?  Was it pinched by the proletariat?  Did the bourgeoisie bring it back?

Oh well, at least those in “upper Websterâ€? can enjoy the relative peace and quiet again. But who knows for how long?
