WARDEN BAND STRETCHES FURTHER

Kent County Council is putting community wardens into 23 more areas in Kent by the beginning of June.

This will bring the number of wardened areas to 112 from a starting point of just 12 when the scheme was launched exactly three years ago.

Together with senior warden posts covering several areas, the total number of wardens now stands at 84.

The new local areas to be allocated a warden are:Appledore/Orlestone; Aldington/Brabourne/Smeeth; Bethersden; St Radigunds in Dover; Cheriton and Folkestone East.

Kent Community Wardens have a dual role. They work closely with the police to tackle crime and the fear of crime, acting as the eyes and ears of the police and a focal point for people’s concerns. And they work closely with their local community and different agencies to help solve problems and build a strong community spirit.

The county council will also shortly be recruiting another 16 Kent Community Wardens, bringing the total number to 100 - a year earlier than planned.
