£60 TICKET FOR BUS STOP PARKERS

The first bus stop clearway scheme  went “liveâ€? on Monday and anyone waiting or parking at any of the 146 clearly marked stops on the routes of the 12 and 711 services will be liable to a £60 fine.

The routes affected cover bus stops between Folkestone and Lydd with further routes to follow.

The new initiative has been introduced because of indiscriminate parking at bus stops and follows talks between Stagecoach East Kent and Shepway District Council.

“When people park at bus stops, buses have to stop in the middle of the road and this makes it very difficult for passengers who are elderly or disabled, or parents with young children, to get on of off the bus,â€? said Stephen Gasche, the council’s Transportation Officer.

“Our parking attendants will enforce the scheme, which sends a very clear message that buses have priority at bus stops.

It is hoped to extend bus stop clearway schemes to other routes in the district when funding becomes available.
