SHEPWAY DELAYS AIRPORT EXPANSION DECISION

A decision o­n the proposed expansion of Lydd airport has been delayed by the Shepway District Council at last night's meeting (20 April).

Around seventy Demonstrators for and against the plans attended, but the decision was deferred until a planning application is made.

The airport is near several wildlife and conservation areas o­n the environmentally sensitive area of Romney Marsh.
     
The Lydd Airport Action Group supporters protested outside the council offices with placards alongside a group supporting the airport expansion.

The owners of Lydd Airport have been receiving support for their plans, from people who think a larger enterprise will help employment prospects in the area and over 150 people have signed a pro airport petition.

The airport is holding two public presentations o­n 26 April and 29 April and an official planning application is expected within the next two months.
