WARNING OF POSSIBLE LETTER SCAM

Letters are being received by residents across South East Kent the contents of which are:-

THE LETTER ALLEGES TO BE FROM THE BANK OF CHINA, IT GOES ON TO STATE THAT A PERSON WITH THE SAME SURNAME AS THE RECIPIENT OF THE LETTER INVESTED MONEY IN 1969 AND THAT THIS MALE HAS BEEN DEAD SINCE 1997. IT ADVISES THAT THE MONEY HAS BEEN IN THERE FOR 25YRS AND APPEARS THAT SHE IS THE NEXT IN LINE TO RECEIVE THIS.

THE LETTER ASKS THAT INFORMANT CALLS OR FAXES TO SPEAK TO THEM AND THAT SHE SHOULD NOT DISCUSS THIS WITH ANYONE ELSE.

THE LADY WHO RECEIVED THIS LETTER BELIEVES THAT THIS IS A SCAM AS HER PARTNER HAS REC’D A LETTER AS WELL, WITH ALL THE SAME DETAILS, EXCEPT A DIFFERENT SURNAME.

Remember if it seems to good to be true it often is. Treat all unsolicited mail with suspicion

PC Ian Foster

Rural Project Officer

South East Kent Police
