RECYCLING BID THROWN OUT

A bid by Kent Community Recycling (KCR) to the Community Recycling and Economic Development Programme (CREDP) for machinery and equipment has been turned down.

The Hawkinge based Recycling Centre was looking to make efficiencies and to expand the business by purchasing a compactor and an electric fork lift truck.

CREDP was unable to agree with them providing incentives to those who recycle through the centre.

For the passed 15 years KCR have provided cash and goods incentives in return for recyclable materials.

KCR project officer Mark Wyatt, in this months issue of his newsletter wrote: “Our bid for lottery based funding was not successful as the programme did not believe we could be sustainable, even though we have been here for 15 years!
