5% BID FOR DOVER COUNCIL TAX RISE

Dover District Council's Cabinet will be considering a recommendation to set a Council Tax rise of 4.95% at its meeting on 21 February. The budget will be formally set at the Full Council meeting on 1 March 2005.

The Council's Deputy Leader, Cllr Frederick Scales, advised the Scrutiny (Management) Committee on Thursday (10 February) that Cabinet would be considering a recommendation for a lower rise than originally envisaged. This follows the Government's review in the level of charges for the licensing function.

Cllr Scales confirmed that whilst the Council's budget remained tight, a tax rise above that level was unjustified at this time and that consultation around the Corporate Plan and longer term financial plans would be undertaken during the coming year.
